“We Will Show Them That We, Too, Are Citizens Whose Voices And Dignity Matter–Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

According to a report by The Sun on Monday, October 19, 2026, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has accused President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of underestimating voters in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He expressed concern over what he described as the administration’s perception of northern voters and their political choices.

Baba-Ahmed made the allegations in a statement reportedly published on his verified Facebook page on Sunday.

He claimed that Tinubu’s supporters believed the ruling party could secure votes across the northern region despite existing grievances against the Federal Government.

The PRP chairman alleged that some supporters of the President were relying on financial inducements to influence voters during the forthcoming elections.

According to him, such an approach reflects an underestimation of the concerns and expectations of people in Northern Nigeria.

He maintained that northern voters have legitimate reasons to express dissatisfaction with the administration and would not necessarily abandon their concerns in exchange for financial benefits.

He stressed that citizens have the right to make independent political decisions based on their experiences and expectations of government.

Baba-Ahmed further argued that the dignity of voters should not be disregarded in the pursuit of electoral support.

He insisted that people in the region deserved to have their concerns acknowledged and their voices respected, rather than being viewed as voters whose choices could easily be influenced by money.

The PRP chairman’s remarks come as political parties and their leaders prepare for the 2027 general elections, with the northern region remaining an important battleground for political support.

His statement challenged the assumption that financial inducements alone could secure the backing of voters who have grievances against the government.

Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed his position that northern voters would stand up for their dignity and make their opinions known during the electoral process, declaring: “We will show them that we, too, are citizens whose voices and dignity matter,” he said.
