Vini Jr to Arsenal: €125m deal could help Mikel Arteta complete a major signing
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Monday, 19 October 2026, Arsenal could have another opportunity to sign Vinicius Junior after developments at Real Madrid raised questions about the Brazilian forward’s long-term future at the Spanish club.
The Gunners were reportedly interested in signing the 26-year-old during the summer transfer window, but he opted to renew his contract with Real Madrid instead of moving to the Premier League.
However, Vinicius has struggled in front of goal this season, scoring just once in 10 appearances, while manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that the forward could have benefited from leaving the club before the transfer deadline.
Speaking ahead of Real Madrid’s victory over Sevilla on Sunday, Mourinho said: “If I were in his shoes, I probably wouldn’t be here. I would have forced a move to a country where I’d be respected, but out of loyalty to Real Madrid and love for the club, he stayed.
“He believes things can improve, and he still has that smile. Nothing and no one can take it away from him.”
Mourinho also acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Vinicius’ decision to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite previously committing his future to the club.
“When he renewed his contract, he said that Madrid is his home and that he’s excited to continue making history and winning titles.
“He gets along well with everyone in the locker room; he’s a source of joy. I had serious doubts about whether he had the strength to stay here, given all the offers he had.”
Real Madrid’s summer recruitment could also influence the situation, with the club spending €125 million to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.
The 19-year-old winger initially needed time to adapt to Mourinho’s system, but he delivered an impressive performance against Sevilla, scoring and providing an assist in a 4-1 victory.
Diomande operated on the left flank in Vinicius’ absence through suspension, raising questions about whether he could offer a long-term alternative in that position.
Real Madrid are unlikely to make an immediate decision on Vinicius based on one performance, but his inconsistent form and the emergence of Diomande could influence the club’s transfer plans next year.
Arsenal could therefore monitor developments if the Brazilian becomes available. However, there is no confirmation that Real Madrid intend to sell him or that the Gunners have renewed their interest.
