UCL: Luis Enrique names three Barcelona stars, reveals how PSG can stop Yamal
According to a report by Daily Post, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has warned his players about the threat posed by Barcelona’s attacking trio of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Pedri ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday.
The Spanish tactician also outlined his preferred approach to neutralising Yamal, who has become one of Barcelona’s most influential attacking players through his creativity, dribbling ability and capacity to create scoring opportunities.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Enrique explained that PSG would need to prevent Barcelona from dominating possession if they wanted to limit the teenager’s influence on the contest.
“The best way to stop Lamine Yamal is to keep the ball away from Barcelona,” Enrique told reporters.
“If he cannot get the ball, everything is calm. That would be ideal.”
Despite highlighting Yamal’s importance, the former Barcelona manager cautioned against concentrating exclusively on the young winger, stressing that Hansi Flick’s side possess several other players capable of making the difference.
“But it is not just Lamine. There are Raphinha and Pedri. There are a lot of top players,” he added.
Enrique’s comments underline the challenge facing PSG as they prepare to confront a Barcelona team with considerable attacking quality across multiple positions.
Yamal’s ability to beat defenders, create chances and influence matches makes him a major threat whenever Barcelona establish control of possession. However, Raphinha provides another dangerous attacking option through his pace, direct running and eye for goal.
Pedri, meanwhile, plays a crucial role in Barcelona’s midfield, using his vision, passing range and composure to dictate the tempo and connect the team’s defensive and attacking units.
Consequently, PSG will need to compete effectively in midfield and disrupt Barcelona’s passing combinations rather than relying solely on individual defensive efforts to contain Yamal.
The encounter also represents a significant occasion for Enrique, who previously managed Barcelona before moving to Paris Saint-Germain. His familiarity with the Catalan club’s playing philosophy could help him prepare his squad for the tactical demands of the meeting.
PSG approach the fixture after recording a 3-1 victory over Strasbourg in Ligue 1 at the weekend, giving the French champions a positive result ahead of their European assignment.
Barcelona, meanwhile, arrive in encouraging form after securing a convincing 5-2 away win against Real Betis in La Liga. Their performance demonstrated the attacking threat they can pose when their forwards and midfielders combine effectively.
Both sides will be looking to strengthen their Champions League campaigns, with possession, midfield control and the ability to exploit defensive weaknesses likely to play important roles in determining the outcome.
For Enrique, the priority will be to prevent Barcelona from settling into their preferred rhythm while ensuring PSG remain dangerous going forward. Nevertheless, containing Yamal alone will not be enough, with Raphinha and Pedri also capable of influencing the contest if given the space and opportunity to express themselves.
