Tottenham 1-0 Coventry

Follow Daily Mail Sport’s live coverage for the latest updates as Spurs host Coventry City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

The ball hits Brandon Thomas-Asante's shoulder and as he isn't even the scorer, it doesn't matter.

The Coventry fans are jubilant while the Spurs fans have got their groan on again.

They give a right moan as Sandro Tonali smashes one over the bar.

Jack Ruidoni has brought this second half to life and the Coventry fans in the corner are going crazy.

Jack Rudoni hammers a cross back off an unexpectant Brandon Thomas-Asante, and then smashes the ball through Antonin Kinsky.

Tottenham want a handball, but they are never getting it.

Bit of a slow start to this second half, I have to say.

People are still returning to their seats after scranning their half-time pies, which may be a factor. The atmosphere is so flat.

The players aren't exactly helping it, mind.

James Maddison, his hair band and his half man bun are back out for the second half.

All of his fellow starters have joined him on the pitch, with Roberto De Zerbi not making any changes at the break. Frank Lampard has followed suit.

Now the question is: can Spurs see this out? Let's see…

Shall we watch that James Maddison cracker, then?

To hit it first time into the top corner like that just shows the skill Maddison still has in his locker, even after so long away.

A pretty incredible way to mark your first start in the league for Tottenham in over a year.

Maddison would have been craving that moment for a very long time.

Matt is bang on; that half really was all about James Maddison.

To see the smile on his face after the ball hit the back of the net was rather magical; that goal meant so much to him.

Of course, it had to be against the side that birthed his career, and of course, it had to be from outside the box.

Since making his Premier League debut in August 2018, Maddison has scored 21 goals from outside the box, at least two more than any other player (Kevin De Bruyne and James Ward-Prowse, 19 each).

Matt Barlow at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

Tottenham lead at the break for the very first time in the Premier League this season.

James Maddison's belter of a strike has them on their way to a first league win of the season.

There are going to be three minutes of stoppage time here.

Meanwhile, just before the board goes up Jay Da Silva picks up a cheeky booking. No complaints from the wing-back.

Big, big challenge from Micky van de Ven.

Brandon Thomas-Asante looks like he is away, and the whole stadium falls silent with worry.

But the Spurs skipper gets across and puts in a great tackle in the box.

I can't lie, this game has gone a bit stale in the last few minutes.

Tottenham look like they have run out of ideas already, with Coventry staying strong at the back. They are hard to break down.

Looking at Roberto De Zerbi right now, you wouldn't guess his side are on the lead. He looks miserable on that touchline.

That is the cry every time from the stands when James Maddison gets the ball, and well, he obliges again.

His effort is hit sweetly but hammers straight back off the head of Ethan Pinnock. It was going in, too.

Moments later, Dominic Solanke smashes on over the bar.
