Today’s Headlines:Tinubu is coming back,’ Defence Minister declares;Obasanjo Mourns Dele Cole
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa(rtd), has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in 2027, declaring that the President’s return to office is not in doubt.
Musa spoke on Sunday in Abuja during the inauguration of national and sub-national structures of the Directorate of Security and Intelligence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
He said the immediate priority was to establish a secure environment for the President’s re-election campaign, stressing that security would be critical to the party’s preparations.
The return of Mr President is not an issue that we should even start worrying about, because God’s willing, he is coming back. The task before us now is to provide the enabling environment for it to happen,” he said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday mourned the death of Ambassador Patrick Dele Cole, who died at the age of 86, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest intellectuals.
Obasanjo, in a tribute issued in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital and personally signed by him to mourn the deceased, described Ambassador Cole as “a dear friend, brother, and compatriot”, whose counsel shaped pivotal moments in Nigeria’s history.
In the tribute, a copy of which was obtained by LEADERSHIP, former President Obasanjo said Cole’s contributions to the Nigerian polity “remained monumental beyond his advisory role”, stressing that the deceased revolutionised African journalism during the period he held sway as the Managing Director of Daily Times, where he introduced “an independent editorial board system that insulated media policy from political interference”.
“It is with a profound sense of personal loss and deep sadness that I write this tribute to honour my dear friend, brother, and compatriot, Ambassador Patrick Dele Cole, who has returned to his Maker at the age of 86. Nigeria has lost one of its finest intellectual pillars, and I have lost a trusted ally whose counsel shaped pivotal moments in our nation’s history.
The Senior Political Assistant to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarewaju, on Monday accused President Bola Tinubu of “doing politics and wickedness” since assuming office in 2023.
Olarewaju said that instead of ensuring good governance, Tinubu had been busy wooing state governors to support his re-election bid in 2027.
He made the remark in reaction to an explanation by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on why Tinubu would not visit all states to campaign.
Speaking during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, Tinubu said he could not visit all states for campaign activities because he would be focusing on governance.
The senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has mourned the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.
DAILY POST earlier reported that the former governor died on Monday morning, October 19, 2026, according to a statement issued on behalf of his family.
Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan was a Nigerian politician and medical doctor who served as Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015.
He assumed office on May 29, 2007, following an inconclusive election, and was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
