Today’s Headlines: Reject Tinubu’s second term, petrol discount a scam – ADC campaign to youths; Obasanjo urges students to embrace hard work, discipline, storytelling

ABUJA – The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has urged Nigerian youths to reject President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, accusing his administration of failing to address unemployment and economic hardship while faulting its petrol price discount as misleading.

The council said young Nigerians continued to face rising living costs and limited job opportunities, urging them to mobilise for an alternative ahead of the presidential election.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the call during an interaction with ADC youth leaders in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Ologbondiyan said many graduates had been pushed into petty trading and point-of-sale businesses by the scarcity of decent jobs.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged students to embrace hard work and discipline, while promoting storytelling as a tool for character development, cultural preservation and moral education.

Obasanjo gave the advice at the 2026 edition of Storytelling with the Legends, organised by the Department of School Library and Media Technology, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan (UI).

The programme, which was held at the Trenchard Hall of the university had the theme: “Preserving Heritage, Inspiring Generations, Learning from Legends”.

It attracted pupils, educators and members of the university community to explore the role of storytelling in preserving cultural heritage and inspiring younger generations.

An African Democratic Congress, ADC, chieftain and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has criticised remarks attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, where he said Chibuike Amaechi might be stopped from campaigning in Rivers State.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, is vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Wike had threatened to prevent Amaechi from campaigning in Rivers State for attacking the government of President Bola Tinubu, which he works for.

Eze reacted to Wike’s comments during an engagement with stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Towulade of Owu Akinale in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Oluseyi Adediran, has warned youths against selling their votes or allowing politicians to use them for campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The traditional ruler gave the warning during a press briefing to commemorate the 2026 Odun Olowu Festival, urging young Nigerians to prioritise credible leadership and national development over immediate financial gains.

Adediran advised youths to scrutinise the backgrounds, track records and credentials of political candidates before deciding whom to support, stressing that electoral decisions should be guided by merit, character and competence rather than money.
