Rent Control to deploy 2,000 ‘yellow yellow’ taskforce to enforce rent law
The Ghana Rent Control Commission is set to deploy more than 2,000 personnel under a task force dubbed “Yellow Yellow” to enforce rent control laws and clamp down on landlords who flout the regulations.
Acting Rent Commissioner Frederick Opoku disclosed this at a press briefing, revealing that the Commission is engaging the National Service Authority to secure the services of 2,000 personnel to support its nationwide enforcement operations.
According to him, the personnel will be tasked with investigating rent-related violations and serving notices on landlords who breach the law, compelling them to report to the Commission for the necessary action.
The move is expected to strengthen the Commission’s monitoring and enforcement capacity as it intensifies efforts to ensure compliance with rent regulations across the country.
He also cautioned landlords against failing to obtain rent cards from the Rent Control Commission, warning that those who violate the relevant legal requirements could face prosecution and imprisonment.
He stressed the need for landlords to comply with the law, adding that the Commission would take the necessary steps to ensure that offenders are held accountable.
The planned deployment forms part of efforts to improve enforcement of rent control regulations and address practices that undermine tenants’ rights and the effective administration of rental housing in Ghana.
