0Tuesday's match between Paris-Saint Germain and Barcelona in Paris will go ahead despite a weekend of violent protests across France.Tuesday's Champions League match between Paris-Saint Germain and Barcelona in Paris will go ahead despite a weekend of violent protests across France, the country's interior minister has confirmed.

Protesters clashed with police across the country this weekend. Police made 2,400 arrests across France, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said over the weekend.

Several cities, including Paris, Marseille and Lyon, saw rioting that emerged from student protests over school funding. The protests have grown to include a number of grievances over the high cost of living, government spending cuts and declining public services,

On Monday, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said “partial curfews” will be imposed in “urban centers across France” in a bid to restore order across the country.

Amid the violence, there had been concern over the status of a marquee showdown between defending champion PSG and Barcelona at Parc des Princes in Paris.

But Nuñez insisted that the game, as well as Wednesday's Champions League game between Lille and Galatasaray in Lille, were in no danger of being postponed.

Speaking about potentially calling off planned events, Nuñez said: "This does not apply to tomorrow's match between PSG and FC Barcelona."

"Looking at these images, we have all asked ourselves: What was going through their minds? How can French people do this to France?" President Emmanuel Macron said in a televised address to the nation on Sunday, Oct. 18. "Nothing justifies it, nothing explains it, nothing excuses it. Tonight, we all feel anger and shame."

PSG coach Luis Enrique was asked about the violence in his pre-match press conference on Monday, Oct. 19.

“I am not the person to ask about the topic. I am here to talk about football. Of course, we don’t like this kind of violence," the Spanish manager said.
