‘OGs do not beef’: Reggie Rockstone fires back at Slim Buster
Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone has hit back at veteran musician Slim Buster over accusations of refusing to meet and discuss music with him and claimed he had done little to help the Ghanaian music industry.
In a firm response, Reggie said he was disappointed that his name had been dragged into public drama, reminding Slim Buster of their longstanding friendship and status as veterans in the music industry.
“I don’t know why my name is always attached to drama. Slim, you’re my friend from way back. We are seniors in the game, so we shouldn’t take this route,” he said.
For Reggie, the public exchange was unnecessary, particularly between musicians he considers industry elders.
“OGs do not beef,” he added, arguing that there was no need for Slim Buster to use a show to criticise him publicly.
The disagreement followed comments by Slim Buster, who said he had known Reggie for years but had never had the opportunity to sit down with him to discuss music. He claimed he wanted to meet the hiplife pioneer but believed Reggie was unwilling to engage with him.
Slim Buster also expressed frustration with the tendency to dismiss veteran musicians as forgotten artistes, questioning how forgotten he could be while insisting that he still had the looks and appeal to compete with younger acts.
He went further to accuse Reggie of failing to contribute meaningfully to the industry.
But Reggie strongly rejected that assessment, pointing to his role in pioneering hiplife, a genre that blends Ghanaian musical traditions with hip-hop and other contemporary influences.
“You say I haven’t done anything for the industry, but I pioneered hiplife. You even tapped into it with ‘Masherita’,” he said.
Reggie also took issue with the decision to criticise him in a public setting, saying he felt disrespected by the remarks.
Addressing Slim Buster’s claim that he had declined to record with him, Reggie said he did not recall receiving a call from the veteran musician requesting a collaboration.
He added that even if such a request had been made, working together remained a matter of personal and creative choice for any artiste.
“Your music might be nice, but an artiste will not have the vibe or crave for it. And that’s okay,” Reggie said.
He warned that he would no longer discuss Slim Buster in interviews or other public conversations and urged him to stop using opportunities to speak publicly to attack others.
