NPP Drama: Ken Agyapong, Owusu Bempah and Hopeson Adorye Back in the Spotlight

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is experiencing renewed internal debate, with Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah and Hopeson Adorye drawing attention through their recent political activities and statements.

The developments are unfolding as the party prepares for its national executive elections on October 3, 2026. The outcome is expected to influence the NPP’s organisational leadership and strategy ahead of the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Owusu Bempah has become involved in a dispute with some members of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional leadership following remarks attributed to him about party figures. The regional NASARA and Women’s Wings have criticised the comments and demanded a retraction and apology.

The Ashanti Regional Youth Wing subsequently petitioned security agencies over alleged statements concerning Effiduase-Asokore MP Dr Nana Ayew Afriye. The youth wing rejected the allegations and requested that the matter be investigated.

Kennedy Agyapong, who remains influential within the party, continues to feature prominently in discussions about the NPP’s future leadership.

His political record and the lessons from the 2024 election have also contributed to ongoing debates about the party’s next presidential direction.

Adorye has similarly remained vocal on political and national matters. He recently questioned the effectiveness of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and advocated reforms within the institution.

He has also claimed that certain NPP members financially supported social media content associated with the party. While he indicated that he could provide relevant information to authorities, he did not disclose the identities of those he referred to.

The renewed activities of these figures have added to the NPP’s internal discussions as the party prepares for its national elections. Their differing views and allegations continue to fuel conversations about accountability, leadership, unity and the future direction of the party.
