“Nobody can link him to any corruption scandal He will be the next president of Ghana” – Pope Skinny

According to a report by Ghanaweb on Monday, Oct 19, 2026, Ghanaian musician Pope Skinny has thrown his weight behind National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, saying he believes the party veteran will be Ghana’s next president.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Nana Romeo, the singer said he does not follow politics closely, but there are a few figures in the space he admires. Top of that list is Asiedu Nketiah, widely known as General Mosquito.

Pope Skinny said his admiration comes down to the NDC chairman’s record. Having spent more than four decades in active politics, he argued, Asiedu Nketiah has never been tied to a corruption scandal. “Nobody can link him to any corruption scandal,” he said.

The musician also responded to colleagues in the creative industry who have argued that Ghana should not hand the presidency to an older candidate. That view has been pushed by politician and musician A-Plus, who has called for younger people to take up leadership roles.

Pope Skinny does not dismiss the call for generational change, but he sees an Asiedu Nketiah presidency as a bridge to it. In his view, once the NDC chairman has served, power could then pass to a younger leader.

He added that a younger politician might find it difficult at this stage to carry forward the work of President John Mahama, whereas a seasoned figure like Asiedu Nketiah would be better placed to keep the momentum going.

The singer also spoke warmly about the current administration’s performance. He pointed to the reconstruction of roads that were once in poor condition and said the security situation in the country has improved compared with previous years.

Pope Skinny, who has in the past spoken about working as a truck driver in the United States, made the remarks in a conversation that has since circulated on social media.
