“My Life Is in Danger” Prof Ndetei in Fear as Dr. Mutiso’s Murder Suspects Demand Release on Bail
Details have emerged about why Professor David Ndetei fears for his safety as his former wife and their two children seek release on bail over the murder of his wife, Dr Victoria Mutiso.
Prof Ndetei has opposed the release of Rose Mbithe Mulwa, their son Chris and daughter Angela, claiming their freedom could put his life and family at risk.In an affidavit presented before the High Court, the professor alleged that he and Dr Mutiso received threats from Rose and their children after his first marriage ended in 2001.
He later married Dr Mutiso, who was shot dead in Nairobi on July 29, 2026.
Prof Ndetei claimed the threats continued after his divorce and eventually culminated in his second wife’s death. He also accused his former wife of repeatedly threatening him.
The professor further told the court that he feared the accused could interfere with the trial if released on bail.
He alleged that they might intimidate, bribe or influence witnesses, potentially affecting the evidence presented against them.
He maintained that releasing the suspects could endanger his life and compromise his family’s safety.Meanwhile, the High Court has summoned Prof Ndetei for cross examination after Rose and her children challenged the authenticity of his affidavit opposing their release on bail.
Their lawyers questioned his ability to sign the document, claiming he had been admitted to the High Dependency Unit of a Nairobi hospital because of health complications.
Justice Alexander Muteti directed Prof Ndetei to appear in court on October 21, 2026, to answer questions about the disputed affidavit.
The judge also ordered the probation office to prepare reports to help determine whether the suspects should be released on bail.Prison authorities were further directed to take Chris to Mbagathi Level 5 Hospital for treatment following allegations of torture.
Rose, Chris and Angela are charged alongside four other suspects, including two police officers. All seven have denied the murder charges and will remain in custody pending Prof Ndetei’s cross examination.
