Missing man found dead in Stockton identified by officials

(FOX40.COM) — Officials have identified a man whose body was discovered more than a month after he went missing in San Joaquin County, the medical examiner’s office said Monday.

The Stockton Police Department first reported 74-year-old Stephen Maurice Lysaght missing in late September. He was last seen Aug. 24 and investigators found his car abandoned on South San Joaquin Street.

According to his family, it was “out of character” for him to leave without contacting them.

On Oct. 9, detectives searched a home near where they found his car as part of the missing person investigation. There, they found the body of Lysaght, the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed.

Officers then arrested two 28-year-old men in connection with Lysaght’s murder the same day they found his body. Luis Moran was the primary suspect and was arrested for homicide. The second suspect, Francisco Renteria-Sanchez, was arrested for accessory to the murder.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court on Nov. 9 for further arraignment, according to court records.
