Messi’s Barcelona Shirt Spotted in the Streets of Paris During Protests — But Where Did It Come From?
Of all the images to emerge from the unrest in Paris, few have been quite as unexpected as a group of masked individuals walking through the streets carrying framed Lionel Messi memorabilia. A short video circulating on social media appears to show items associated with the Argentine superstar’s Barcelona career being transported through a street filled with haze and debris, prompting an obvious question among football fans: how did they get there?
The footage, which lasts approximately ten seconds, shows several people dressed in dark clothing, some wearing masks and goggles. Instead of the usual banners or signs associated with demonstrations, at least two of the individuals are carrying large framed football collectibles. One immediately stands out because it contains Barcelona’s famous blue-and-red No. 10 shirt.
The shirt visible in the recording features Barcelona’s traditional colours and the UNICEF sponsorship associated with an earlier period of Messi’s career at the Camp Nou. It is mounted inside a presentation frame, apparently accompanied by plaques and other materials.
Another person carries a separate display containing what appears to be a signed captain’s armband, together with a photograph of Messi wearing an armband during a match. The presentation reportedly includes authentication information and a QR code, suggesting that the items were intended to be displayed as football memorabilia rather than simply worn as clothing.
That distinction matters because authenticated Messi collectibles can be extremely valuable. Shirts associated with important matches, signed equipment and objects linked to the Argentine’s extraordinary Barcelona career are sought after by collectors around the world. However, the authenticity and market value of the particular items shown in the video have not been independently established.
This is where the story becomes more mysterious. The video shows people transporting the framed objects through an area affected by unrest, but it does not establish where the items came from, who owns them or why they were being carried.
The circumstances naturally generated speculation about whether the memorabilia had been taken from a shop or private collection during disturbances in the French capital. Yet there is currently no verified evidence connecting the objects in the footage to a reported theft, and no confirmed identification of their original location.
It would therefore be premature to describe the items as stolen or the people carrying them as looters solely on the basis of the recording. What can be said is that the unusual appearance of Messi memorabilia in the middle of a tense street scene attracted attention far beyond those following the demonstrations themselves.
Messi’s connection with Paris adds another dimension to the images. Following his historic years at Barcelona, the Argentine spent two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain between 2021 and 2023 before leaving European club football for Inter Miami.
His spell in France was complicated. Although PSG won domestic titles during his time at the club, the relationship between Messi and sections of the Parisian fanbase deteriorated before his departure. Nevertheless, the city remains closely associated with a significant chapter of his career.
The framed shirt seen in the video belongs to a different part of that story: the Barcelona years, when Messi became arguably the most recognisable footballer in the world. Even outside a stadium, the famous No. 10 is enough to attract enormous attention.
For now, the video’s central mystery remains unanswered. Two pieces of memorabilia associated with one of football’s greatest players have appeared in an unlikely setting, but their origin and ownership remain unclear. Until further evidence emerges, the images tell an unusual story without establishing what happened before the camera started recording.
