Macron Made His Bed When He Assured POTUS That He Welcomes Atrocities Against Iranians– Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has taken aim at French President Emmanuel Macron over his remarks on the rising cost of living and the ongoing war, arguing that the unrest witnessed in France could signal the country’s future political direction.

According to Al Jazeera, in a report published on Monday, October 19, 2026, Araghchi expressed his criticism in a post on X, accompanied by a video showing Macron speaking after a weekend marked by unrest across France.

The Iranian foreign minister used the video to question Macron’s position on the conflict and its economic impact, accusing the French president of supporting actions against Iran while attributing the financial difficulties facing citizens to the war.

Araghchi also shared an image of a message Macron reportedly sent to United States President Donald Trump in January. In the communication, Macron was quoted as saying, “we can do great things on Iran”.

Referring to the reported message, Araghchi accused the French leader of backing actions against Iran and contributing to the circumstances surrounding the conflict.

“Mr. Macron made his bed when he assured POTUS that he welcomes atrocities against Iranians,” the Iranian foreign minister wrote.

He argued that Macron could no longer blame the war for France’s economic challenges, maintaining that those he associated with the French president had played a role in creating the conditions that led to the conflict.

“Too late to blame the war his ilk helped cause. The French people demand wholesale change, including freedom of assembly,” Araghchi added.

The Iranian diplomat further called on Macron to recognise the significance of the demonstrations and growing public dissatisfaction in France, urging him to “listen to the future of France”.

The criticism comes against the backdrop of continuing tensions over the conflict involving Iran and concerns about its wider economic consequences.

Rising living costs and the potential political fallout from the fighting have also become important issues in the debate surrounding the war.

By highlighting the unrest in France, Araghchi sought to challenge Macron’s account of the economic difficulties confronting French citizens. His remarks also suggested that growing public frustration could create pressure for significant political changes in the country.

The exchange underscores the diplomatic friction between Tehran and Paris, particularly over their respective positions on Iran and the economic consequences of the conflict.
