According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Monday, October 19, 2026, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has said he is comfortable sleeping in the worst hotel, emphasising that wealth and social standing should not prevent anyone from embracing humility and simplicity in life.

He maintained that people should remain modest regardless of their financial achievements or position in society.

Dangote made the remarks on Monday at an event tagged Vision 2030, where he spoke about his personal values and approach to life.

The billionaire businessman stressed that accumulating wealth should not make anyone feel more important than others or create a sense of superiority over people with fewer resources.

During the event, the industrialist also accepted an invitation from popular content creator Adebayo Ridwan, widely known as Bae U Barbie, to feature on his YouTube programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

The invitation provided an opportunity for the businessman to share his views on humility, personal values and the importance of maintaining a simple lifestyle.

The billionaire explained that he believes in living modestly and avoiding unnecessary displays of wealth.

According to him, a person’s financial success should not determine how they treat others or influence their attitude towards people from different backgrounds and social classes.

Dangote’s remarks highlighted his position that simplicity remains an important quality, irrespective of the level of success an individual achieves.

He indicated that people should not allow their accomplishments or financial status to change their perception of themselves or make them look down on others.

His willingness to sleep in a poorly rated hotel, as he explained, reflects his belief that comfort and accommodation should not become measures of personal worth.

The businessman stressed the need for individuals to remain grounded and recognise that circumstances can change, regardless of their present achievements or position.

Explaining his decision to embrace simplicity and the message he wanted people to understand, Dangote said, “And also to show people that, look, in life, you have to be as simple as you can, because anybody can be anybody.”
