Kennedy Agyapong Causes A Massive Stir After Criticizing His Own Political Party On Live TV

New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Kennedy Agyapong has challenged the party’s economic achievements, insisting that it should not be praised for the Ghanaian cedi’s depreciation against the US dollar.

During an interview on TV3’s New Day, Agyapong disputed claims that the NPP deserved credit for the exchange rate changing from around GH¢4 to GH¢12 to one US dollar.

He argued that the party’s economic record must be judged fairly and that a significant decline in the value of the local currency should not be portrayed as a success.

Agyapong further acknowledged that the NPP had fallen short of its commitments to manage the economy effectively and maintain a stable currency. He noted concerns surrounding the economic pressures facing businesses and households.

His willingness to criticise his own party has attracted support from some observers, while others suspect that his comments may be linked to his political ambitions.

Nevertheless, his remarks have brought the NPP’s economic performance back into public debate, raising questions about its record and responsibility during its time in government.

The discussion has also highlighted the need for sound economic policies that support the cedi, ease the cost of living and rebuild confidence in Ghana’s economy.
