James Bond fans left furious as ITV cut famous strangling scene in woke editing

James Bond fans were left furious on Sunday afternoon as ITV cut a famous scene from Tomorrow Never Dies in woke editing.

ITV broadcasted the 1997 Pierce Brosnan hit at 1:45pm but edited out the crucial part where 007 runs into trouble while flying a plane.

Fans rushed to X to complain that the outlet has ‘butchered’ the Bond film while others said ‘ITV don’t deserve the 007 rights’.

They wrote: ‘Cutting the guy strangling Bond so now it just looks like Brosnan is screaming in terror at the plane shooting at him;

‘ITV don’t deserve the @007 rights if they’re going to butcher Bond for pre-watershed TV. It’ll extinguish the charm & thrill;

‘Watched James Bond for the action, ITV thinking audiences don’t watch movies for the action;

‘And this is why I no longer watch Bond on ITV…..;

‘ITV with one of the best censorship edits ever to Tomorrow Never Dies. Cutting the guy strangling Bond;

‘They butchered GoldenEye the other week and have done the same to others too. Its becoming so bad that ITV shouldn’t be allowed to show Bond films anymore if this is what they’re intent on doing;

‘ITV do this with Bond quite often. Not only violent scenes but intimate ones, too. Imagine removing the violence and sex from James Bond films, lol. You cannot detest our censorious media enough’.

The Daily Mail have contacted ITV for comment.

Pierce played the role of Bond from 1995 to 2002 and starred in four films.

Along with Tomorrow Never Dies, Pierce starred in GoldenEye (1995), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002).

It comes as James Bond creators Amazon MGM Studios finally shared an update on the new 007 as they posted a statement on Instagram earlier this year.

Last year the Broccoli family handed over creative control over to Amazon MGM Studios – which was formed when Amazon bought Bond’s parent studio in 2022 – after 30 years.

But it seems the leading actor, who will replace Daniel Craig following his exit after 2021’s No Time To Die, is still yet to be cast.

The creators revealed they are still in ‘the casting process’ and the search for the leading role is currently ‘underway’.

The statement also teased that ‘exciting 007 news’ will be announced in the coming months.

The Statement from Amazon MGM Studios read: ‘The search for the next James Bond is underway.

‘While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right’.

It comes as it was reported that James Bond fans will have to wait another two years before 007 is back on the big screen, marking the longest gap between movies in the franchise’s 64-year history.

The super spy is no stranger to a lengthy hiatus – with a six-years between 1989’s Licence to Kill, the final Timothy Dalton film, and 1995’s GoldenEye, the first to star Pierce.

But with the leading actor still to be recast, a rumoured 2028 spring release means audiences will have waited a whopping seven years.

Dune’s director Denis Villeneuve has signed on to helm the new project, with Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight penning the script.

A source said: ‘Bond won’t be back until 2028. The production mindset’s gone from “Let’s hurry this through’” to “Make sure we get this right”.

‘Denis wanted a long break after Dune 3 and has some broad ideas on the script. Steven will get on with drafts, before they map out the final version. That’ll take at least the whole summer.”

They told The Sun: ‘Realistically, if they can make January 2027 work for pre-production then that will be a success. The principal photography will run until the summer and the film always takes around nine months to a year to edit’.

Daily Mail have contacted Amazon MGM for comment.
