‘It’s not something I’ve thought about’ – Sarkodie on taking second wife

Rap star Sarkodie has dismissed the idea of taking a second wife, admitting that managing another marriage would bring a level of stress he is not prepared to handle.

The rapper made the revelation during an interview with broadcaster Serwaa Amihere on When We Sit, where he was asked whether he would consider having two wives like his friend Shatta Wale.

Sarkodie was quick to suggest that polygamy was not something he had seriously considered, pointing to the demands that would come with managing such an arrangement.

“It’s not something I have thought about. The stress I will face. I don’t think I have the bandwidth for that,” he said.

When the question was put to him differently, with the interviewer asking whether he might consider a second wife if the arrangement came without stress, Sarkodie still declined the idea.

His response offers a glimpse into the rapper’s personal views on marriage, particularly as conversations about Shatta Wale’s unconventional relationship dynamics continue to attract attention in Ghana’s entertainment space.

Sarkodie, born Michael Owusu Addo, has been married to Tracy Sarkcess since July 2018, when the couple held a private wedding ceremony after several years together. They have two children.

Tracy has remained a steady presence in the rapper’s life while pursuing her own business interests, although the couple generally keep their family affairs away from the public spotlight.

Despite Sarkodie’s celebrity status and the attention surrounding his personal life, his latest comments suggest he has little interest in expanding his marriage, preferring not to take on what he sees as the added pressure of another relationship.

For the award-winning rapper, at least, a second wife is not on the agenda.
