“I Signed the US$2M Skytrain Transfer Letter” — Ameyaw-Akumfi Makes Sh0cking Revelation in Court

According to a report by GHOne TV on Monday, October 19, 2026, former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Board Chairman Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi has disclosed that he countersigned a letter authorising the transfer of US$2 million for the Skytrain project. However, he says the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic affected the implementation of the project.

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi made the disclosure in a witness statement filed at the High Court in Accra as part of his defence in the ongoing trial over alleged financial loss to the state. He is standing trial alongside former GIIF Chief Executive Officer Solomon Asamoah.

In his statement, the former board chairman explained that he received a letter instructing GIIF’s bankers to transfer US$2 million to Africa Investor Holdings Limited as payment for the fund’s equity shares.

He stated that he countersigned the transfer instruction in his official capacity because transactions above the applicable threshold required the signatures of both the board chairman and the chief executive officer.

His explanation forms part of the defence being presented in the ongoing case, which centres on allegations of causing financial loss to the state in connection with the Skytrain project.

The development comes after the court dismissed a submission of no case filed by the accused persons following the prosecution’s presentation of its evidence. The accused persons subsequently approached the Supreme Court in an attempt to halt the proceedings.

However, the Supreme Court dismissed their applications, allowing the trial to continue.

At the latest sitting on Monday, the High Court began a case management conference involving the prosecution and defence lawyers. The process is intended to ensure that the necessary details are agreed upon before the accused persons begin presenting their defence.

The conference is expected to continue over the coming days, after which the defence is expected to begin calling its witnesses.

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi’s statement is expected to form part of the evidence considered by the court as it examines the circumstances surrounding the Skytrain project and the alleged financial loss to the state.
