He Finally Bows Out – Embattled Obuasi SHTS Headmaster Withdraws From Juaben Race

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has told its own man to step aside.

The party has ordered Zakaria Abdulai, the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), to withdraw from the Juaben constituency chairmanship race or face disqualification.

Mr. Abdulai is popularly known as Paapaa and is currently the NDC’s Juaben constituency secretary.

The order was made public by the party’s Deputy National Communications Director, Julius Anthony. He said the national leadership has already communicated its position to the headmaster on JoyNews’ The Probe.

“The party has directed; withdraw your attempts to contest for the chairmanship or be disqualified. That is the party’s position, well communicated to the headmaster,” he said.

Mr. Abdulai is at the center of a big scandal. He came under scrutiny after a JoyNews investigation by Manasseh Azure Awuni into allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and rape involving female students.

The documentary was titled Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.

Mr. Anthony said the party cannot allow someone being investigated by law enforcement to contest for a top party position.

“Our rationale is simple: this person is currently being investigated by law enforcement agencies who essentially report to our government,” he explained.

On October 13, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu directed the Ghana Education Service to suspend Mr. Abdulai pending full investigations, and asked the Criminal Investigation Department to take up the matter.

The party says the investigations must finish first. Until then, the Juaben chairmanship race is off-limits for him.
