Doctor Told Me, This Is What’s Wrong With You, You’re Actually Dying, Your Heart Isn’t Working—Nigerian actor Lanre Afod

Nigerian actor Lanre Afod has recounted how a doctor told him he was dying because his heart was not working properly during a period of serious illness.

Afod shared the experience during an interview on the Talk to B podcast, where he explained how he reacted after learning about his heart condition and how he is now getting better.

The actor said he was in a critical condition while receiving treatment in the hospital. According to him, some people called and sent him messages to express sympathy after hearing about his heart failure. He mentioned late actress Allwell Ademola as one of those who reached out to him.

Afod recalled that one of the doctors treating him decided to explain his condition to him directly. The doctor told him that his heart was not functioning properly and warned him that he was dying.

To help him understand the problem, the doctor compared his heart to a pumping machine that could no longer pump water upwards.

The actor said he broke down in tears in the doctor’s office after hearing the explanation. However, the doctor allowed him to cry before reassuring him that he was lucky to have survived.

According to Afod, the doctor explained that the problem had started about six months earlier, adding that some people do not survive when their hearts fail.

In his words, “I remember one day when one of the doctors was talking to me. He said, ‘Bro, let me tell you what’s wrong with you: you’re actually dying.’ He was the first person who told me boldly; he said, ‘Your heart isn’t working properly.'”
