First Sergeant Levern Bynum of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said 30-year-old Dantavious Pittman of Roanoke Rapids has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving left of center in the crash that claimed the life of Michael Allen Hedgepeth. He said an investigation is underway to determine whether other charges will be presented to the district attorney’s office.

Pittman was driving south on Beaverdam Road around 7:30 p.m. when he crossed the centerline and struck Hedgepeth’s vehicle on the driver’s side.

Hedgepeth’s vehicle overturned off the road, and he succumbed to his injuries.
