City Boy Movement: I Saw How I Wake Every Morning To Work, I Saw The Reason I Have No Regrets—Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed appreciation to young supporters of the City Boy movement for standing by his administration, saying their presence reminded him of why he contested for the presidency and continued working for the country. Tinubu made the remarks during a meeting with members of the City Boy movement, in a video released by TVC News on Monday, October 19, 2026.

Addressing the young supporters, the President said he did not see merely a gathering of people when he entered the hall but a representation of Nigeria and the future he hopes to build for the younger generation. “My young compatriots, when I walked into this hall, I did not see a crowd. I saw Nigeria. I saw Nigeria,” Tinubu said.

He explained that the sight of the young people reminded him of the reasons he decided to run for president and the motivation behind his daily efforts in office. “I saw why I ran for the presidency of this country. I saw how I wake every morning to work. I saw the reason I have no regrets,” he said.

Tinubu added that the gathering represented the future of Nigeria, expressing excitement over the support he received from the young people. “I saw the future that belongs to you. I cannot describe the situation, the elation that I felt, hearing from one or two of you, the words that I don’t often say enough, I must say tonight. Thank you very much,” the President said.

He subsequently thanked the supporters for remaining behind him, noting that the journey his administration had undertaken over the past three years had been difficult. “Thank you for standing with me. The road we have walked these past three years has not been easy. We took hard decisions,” Tinubu stated.

According to him, the country had faced a situation in which it struggled to pay some of its obligations and owed money to airlines, raising concerns about the continuation of flights to Nigeria. “When I see movies, we were unable to pay even some, we were owing money to airlines. They are almost cutting their flights to Nigeria. Our foreign reserve was nothing,” he said.

Tinubu also criticised the previous practice of printing currency without sufficient regard for its long-term consequences. “We printed currencies as if there is no tomorrow. But rather than looking back at what are the flaws of the past, I took the lesson, the first lesson in our country, assume the responsibility and liability of my predecessors. That was a challenge,” the President said.
