Asiedu Nketiah Received Big Support

Ghanaian musician Pope Skinny has expressed confidence in National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, predicting that the veteran politician could become the country’s next president.

The musician shared his views during an interview with media personality Nana Romeo, explaining that although he does not actively follow partisan politics, he has considerable admiration for certain political figures.

He identified Asiedu Nketiah, widely known as General Mosquito, as his preferred politician, citing the NDC chairman’s extensive experience and long-standing involvement in Ghanaian politics.

According to Pope Skinny, Asiedu Nketiah’s more than 40 years in politics have equipped him with the experience needed to lead the country.

“I’m not really interested in politics, but there are some people I love so much. My favourite is General Mosquito, Asiedu Nketiah. I believe he will be the next president of Ghana,” he said.

The musician also highlighted what he considers the NDC chairman’s commitment to public service, arguing that his lengthy political career makes him a strong contender for the presidency. He added that he was not aware of any major corruption scandal involving Asiedu Nketiah that had seriously damaged his public image.

Pope Skinny’s endorsement comes amid ongoing conversations about generational change in Ghanaian politics, particularly calls for younger people to take up key leadership positions.

The debate has included advocacy by politician and musician Kwame A Plus, who has spoken in favour of younger leaders assuming greater responsibility in the country’s political affairs.

However, Pope Skinny suggested that an Asiedu Nketiah presidency could provide a transitional period before younger politicians eventually take over. He appeared to favour the veteran politician’s experience as a means of maintaining continuity in governance.

He also questioned whether a younger leader would be able to maintain the development direction under President John Dramani Mahama, pointing to the importance of consistency in implementing national policies.

Commenting on the current administration, Pope Skinny identified road infrastructure and security as areas where he believes improvements have been made. He referred to roads that had previously been in poor condition and expressed the view that the country’s security situation had improved compared with earlier periods.

His remarks have added to discussions about the qualities Ghana should prioritise when choosing future presidents, including political experience, generational representation and continuity in national development.

While Pope Skinny has publicly expressed his preference for Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC chairman’s prospects of becoming president would ultimately depend on future political developments and the electoral process.
