Amritsar Police Arrest Three in Drug and Illegal Arms Smuggling Case; 10 Pistols, 1.022 Kg Heroin Seized

Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested three people allegedly linked to a drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling network, recovering 10 pistols, 1.022 kg of heroin and a motorcycle, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.

The arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The accused have been identified as Gautam alias Ajay (28), a bouncer and resident of Sensra Khurd village; Ravi Sher Singh (22), a resident of Guru Ka Bagh village; and Rajbir Singh alias Raja (24), a resident of Basarke Bhaini village who is currently living at Pal Avenue. All three are from the Amritsar Rural area.

The recovered firearms include three 9mm Glock pistols and seven .30-bore pistols. Police also seized a motorcycle allegedly used in the smuggling activities.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations had revealed that the accused were in contact with foreign-based smugglers who allegedly supplied illegal weapons for further distribution to criminal elements.

He said further investigation was underway to trace the network’s forward and backward linkages and identify other individuals involved in the operation.

Sharing details of the operation, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said police teams acted on actionable intelligence and initially arrested Gautam alias Ajay and Ravi Sher Singh from the jurisdiction of Police Station Cantonment. Two Glock pistols and a motorcycle were recovered from their possession.

During sustained questioning, police recovered seven additional pistols based on information provided by Gautam, Gill said.

Following further leads, police arrested their alleged accomplice, Rajbir Singh alias Raja, and recovered another .30-bore pistol and 1.022 kg of heroin from his possession. This brought the total number of firearms seized in the case to 10.

Gill said both Gautam and Rajbir had previous criminal cases registered against them. Gautam faces two previous cases under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while Rajbir has been facing five cases under the NDPS Act.

An FIR, numbered 193 and dated October 13, 2026, has been registered at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar under Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act and Sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Police said the investigation was continuing to establish the complete supply chain and identify other suspected links in the alleged drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling network.
