Akrokere chieftaincy dispute leaves two critically injured
Two people are reported to be in critical condition following a clash between two factions at Akrokere in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region over the leadership of the royal family.
The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Obuasi Hospital after the confrontation, which is said to have stemmed from a dispute over the position of Abusuapanin.
The disagreement came to light when Adom News visited the Akrokere Palace to investigate reports of rising tension in the community.
The Acting Asakyire Abusuapanin, Nana Atta Asamoah, said the dispute followed the death of the late Abusuapanin, Opanin Kwame Amponsah, at a time when the family was making arrangements for his funeral.
He alleged that the Akrokerehemaa, Nana Serwaa Bruwaa II, subsequently directed the Gyaasihene to close the palace, a move he believes has worsened tensions between the factions.
Nana Atta Asamoah appealed to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene and help resolve the matter.
He claimed that members of the Asakyire Royal Family no longer wanted the Queen Mother to oversee their affairs.
Efforts by Adom News to speak directly with Nana Serwaa Bruwaa II were unsuccessful.
However, her brother, Kwaku Owusu, who spoke on her behalf, said the Queen Mother was returning from Kumasi when she discovered that the palace had been locked.
He explained that her attempt to establish who had closed the palace resulted in the confrontation.
