When People Say Tinubu Is Yoruba, He’s All About Lagos; 90% Of His Cabinet Are His Cronies-Momodu
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, claiming that most of the people serving in the administration are the president’s associates rather than representatives of a broader political constituency.
Momodu argued that Nigerians should not assume Tinubu’s political decisions necessarily reflect the interests of the Yoruba people or Lagos State simply because of the president’s ethnic background and longstanding political base in the Southwest.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the ADC chieftain questioned the composition of Tinubu’s cabinet and the political relationships behind appointments to key government positions.
“When people say Tinubu is Yoruba, Tinubu is all about Lagos. 90% of those you find in Tinubu’s cabinet today are his cronies,” Momodu said.
The media personality’s remarks suggest that he believes the president’s appointments have been driven largely by personal and political loyalty rather than a broader effort to accommodate different interests.
Momodu’s comments also challenge the assumption that Tinubu’s presidency automatically guarantees political benefits for the Yoruba people or Lagos residents.
Tinubu, who served as governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, built a longstanding political network in the Southwest before winning the 2023 presidential election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His political associates have remained influential in Nigerian politics, with several individuals who have worked with him over the years occupying positions within his administration.
