VIDEO: 15-year-old girl wakes up inside coffin during her funeral

A funeral in Guatemala reportedly turned into a moment of celebration after a 15-year-old girl, believed by her family to have died, began moving inside her coffin and eventually sat up.

The teenager, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, had reportedly collapsed before her family prepared for her burial. Her mother, Lesvia Ríos, was among those mourning when she noticed signs of movement from inside the coffin.

The incident, which was captured in a video circulating on social media, has prompted questions about how the teenager’s death was presumed without medical confirmation.

According to reports, Ríos noticed that something was happening as she leaned over the coffin to grieve. She reportedly alerted those around her that her daughter was not dead.

“I kept saying she was alive; she wasn’t dead,” she told local media.

Describing the moment the teenager began moving, she said: “When I was crying on top of her casket, we opened the window and she was moving, she was waking up and suddenly she sat up.”

The footage shows Yuleidy, dressed in a pink T-shirt, moving before sitting upright. Relatives reportedly helped her out of the coffin and gave her water, while other mourners reacted with shouts of “hallelujah”.

Yuleidy’s father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, an evangelical pastor, reportedly believed his daughter had died after she collapsed while he was taking her to a medical centre.

He said he stopped the vehicle to check her condition but could not detect a pulse or signs of breathing.

“I saw that she was no longer breathing and I couldn’t feel her pulse on her wrists. It was a very difficult situation for me. She did not go to hospital,” he reportedly told local media, according to The Sun.

Her family subsequently proceeded with funeral arrangements without a doctor certifying her death or an official death certificate being issued.

The teenager reportedly regained consciousness during the wake at the family home in El Jocote, a rural Guatemalan village, approximately eight hours after her collapse.

Speaking about what happened before she lost consciousness, Yuleidy reportedly described experiencing intense pain in her chest.

“My heart started hurting really badly, it felt heavy and then I blacked out, like I fainted,” she said.

She is reportedly conscious and recovering at home. The teenager also expressed gratitude to God for surviving the incident.

The video has attracted widespread attention online, with some viewers interpreting the incident as a miracle and others expressing concern about the circumstances surrounding it.

However, the available reports do not establish the medical cause of Yuleidy’s collapse or explain why her family concluded that she had died without medical confirmation.
