Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang Breaks Silence on 2028 Presidential Speculation

The Office of the Vice President has rejected suggestions that Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is preparing to pursue the presidency, insisting that her current priority is supporting the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.

The clarification follows public debate triggered by comments attributed to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin concerning the Vice President’s possible political ambitions.

Ama Pratt, spokesperson for Professor Opoku-Agyemang, said the Vice President is focused on fulfilling her responsibilities in government rather than pursuing personal presidential ambitions. She stressed that her attention remains on supporting Mahama’s Reset Agenda and helping the administration implement its development plans.

According to Pratt, the Vice President is committed to policies and programmes designed to improve the welfare of Ghanaians. These priorities include strengthening education, encouraging inclusive governance, and contributing to economic recovery.

She added that Professor Opoku-Agyemang remains focused on her constitutional duties and coordinating efforts to advance the government’s objectives. Pratt’s remarks sought to shift attention away from speculation about future political contests and back toward the administration’s work.

Since taking office, the Vice President has participated in policy coordination and engagement with stakeholders, particularly on issues involving education, social development, and women’s empowerment. Her role forms part of the broader government effort to implement its agenda.
