Tinubu: Wike Was Around In 2023 With His G-5 Govs, 3 Contested Just To Be Senator And Lost -Momodu
Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has questioned the political impact FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike could have on President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing the performance of the G5 governors during the 2023 general election.
In an interview with Arise News on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Momodu recalled that Wike was part of the G5 governors who opposed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in 2023. He noted that three of the five governors lost their senatorial elections despite being in office at the time.
Momodu identified former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as the three governors who lost their bids for the Senate. He said Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was the only one among the five who did not contest a senatorial election.
In Momodu’s words: “Nyesom Wike was around in 2023 with his G5 governors. Three out of five contested just to be senator. Benue governor lost his senatorial bid, he was a sitting governor. Enugu State governor lost his senatorial bid, he was a sitting governor. Abia State governor lost his senatorial bid, he was a sitting governor. The only man who escaped was Seyi Makinde.”
