Sydney Sweeney was accused of taking part in the ‘can’t act Olympics’ by merciless movie fans after set images from the Housemaid sequel were released.

She was pictured shooting a scene in Hoboken, New Jersey with Michele Morrone, which included him planting a kiss on the actress’s forehead.

But not many observers were won over by the passion on the display, as one remarked: ‘I can hear the bad acting from here.’

Destroyed: Sydney Sweeney hasn’t even finished shooting The Housemaid’s Secret yet – but armchair critics are already claiming they can tell her acting is bad in it

Another added: ‘Amazing. Notice how her facial expression doesn’t change in the slightest at any moment, no matter what she’s saying.

‘It’s as if she’s just… reciting the lines. GIVE THIS WOMAN AN OSCAR.’

Commenting on one image that showed Sydney and Michele staring intently at each other, one cynic noted: ‘The look in her eyes are so dead.’

Another joked: ‘Find someone to look at you like that,’ as another added: ‘Yessss – give us nothing Sydney.’

The Housemaid’s Secret is the follow-up to successful 2025 thriller The Housemaid. It is based on a 2022 Freida McFadden novel of the same name and follows Sydney’s character Millie as she takes on a job working as a live-in housemaid for Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried).

The original was shot on a modest budget of $35million but grossed over $400million worldwide, becoming director Paul Feig and Sydney’s highest-grossing movie.

Not impressed: The social media criticism was harsh but Sydney is used to the slings and arrows by now

Business Insider reported earlier this year that screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine had already finished the script for the sequel by the time The Housemaid was making waves at the box office.

And Sydney enthusiastically told People at the time: ‘I would love to [reprise the role].

‘I was such a huge fan of the books, so I would be just as happy as everyone else being able to see more Housemaids come to life and getting to explore more of Millie.

‘She’s spicy. She is a fighter. She knows what she believes in and she stands up for it. I love characters like that. I love seeing movies that have just fully embraced female rage.’

Professional: Sydney plays a live-in housemaid Millie while Michele portrays brooding landscaper Enzo

On a role: The first Housemaid movie was Sydney’s biggest success so she will be hoping for a repeat at the box office this time around

Double act: The 2025 thriller also starred Amanda Seyfried and was oozing with tension
