Roma vs Real Madrid: Mourinho said his decision to sub off Vinicius early was vindicated by a win

According to recent report from ESPN on 15th October, 2026, Portuguese tactician and Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho spoke on his decision to sub off Vinicius Jr early during their UCL clash against Roma last night.

Mourinho recounted that after observing that Vinicius Jr was not actually in a great form and performing remarkably as a fantastic winger he has been so far in the team, the decision to sub him off early came up on time.

He noted that it was a crucial decision which was vindicated by a victory as they were already losing so sadly to Roma.

The perennial Champions League winners were 3-1 down at the time of the decision at the Stadio Olimpico, but scored three times in the final seven minutes through Carlos Espi, Endrick, and a last-minute winner from Antonio Rudiger which made their fans extremely proud of the squad last night.

However, the decision appeared like Jose Mourinho’s unpopular call to take off one of his finest talents who has worked wonders for the La Liga giants. That even made Vinicius Jr furious at his new manager.

Many Spanish football pundits have claimed that it was a poor performance from the winger, who created no chances and took no shots on targets as well during his presence in the game.

During Jose Mourinho’s press conference earlier today, he reiterated that the decision he took to earlier sub off Vinicius Jr resulted to a dramatic win.

A stunning 4-3 win against Roma vindicated Mourinho’s decision at full-time in Italy’s ancient capital, it could be said that the Brazilian star was not giving out his best as expected by the former Benfica manager.
