Rodri Identifies Area Barcelona Must Improve After Champions League Defeat

According to Daily post, Barcelona midfielder Rodri has identified game management and defensive transitions as areas the Spanish champions need to improve following their 4-1 Champions League defeat to Galatasaray on Tuesday.

The Spain international said Barcelona must learn to control matches better and avoid allowing opponents to exploit spaces during counter-attacks.

Speaking to Cadena SER, as reported by Barca Blaugranes, Rodri admitted that Barcelona had struggled to deal with Galatasaray’s attacking threats and needed to improve their defensive organisation.

“For example, their Galatasaray’sGalatasaray’s first chance went in. We need to improve in that area, and they could have scored a second,” he said.

The midfielder also stressed the need for Barcelona to be more patient when building attacks, warning that losing possession while pushing forward could leave the team vulnerable to quick counter-attacks.

“So we have to learn, maybe try to attack a little more slowly, because if you lose possession, they counter-attack quickly,” Rodri added.

His comments came after Barcelona suffered a disappointing defeat against the Turkish side in the Champions League, with the result highlighting concerns about their ability to manage difficult moments during matches.

Goals from João Cancelo, Fermín López, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi secured the victory for Galatasaray, handing Barcelona a setback in their European campaign.

Rodri’s assessment suggests that Barcelona must improve their decision-making in possession and ensure their attacking approach does not expose them defensively.

The midfielder believes controlling the tempo of games and preventing opponents from launching dangerous counter-attacks will be important as the team looks to respond to the loss.

Barcelona will turn their attention to domestic football, with a LaLiga meeting against Real Betis scheduled for this weekend.

The Spanish side will hope to bounce back from the Champions League defeat and address the weaknesses identified after the loss.
