Kofi Adams Raises Concerns Over Scarcity of Ghana-Based Players in Black Queens Squad

Kofi Adams has voiced his unease regarding the insufficient number of locally based footballers earning call-ups to Ghana’s national women’s team, the Black Queens.

His remarks highlight a growing debate about the composition of the squad, with critics arguing that players plying their trade in the domestic league are being overlooked in favour of their counterparts based abroad. Adams believes this trend raises questions about the development and recognition of talent within Ghana’s local women’s football structures.

According to him, the persistent preference for foreign-based players limits opportunities for homegrown talents to prove themselves on the international stage. He noted that many capable footballers in the domestic league possess the quality and dedication required to represent the nation, yet rarely get the chance to wear the national colours.

Adams further expressed worry that the continued exclusion of locally based players could dampen morale within the local league, discouraging young female footballers who aspire to represent Ghana one day. He stressed that a balanced selection policy would not only reward outstanding performers in the domestic competition but also strengthen the overall competitiveness of the national team.

In his view, the Ghana Football Association and the technical handlers of the Black Queens should pay closer attention to the local league and create a clearer pathway for domestic players to graduate into the national setup. Such an approach, he argued, would boost confidence in the local game and encourage investment in women’s football at the grassroots level.

Adams called for a more inclusive selection process that gives every deserving player, regardless of where they play their club football, a fair opportunity to compete for a place in the Black Queens. He maintained that doing so would serve the long-term interests of Ghanaian women’s football and ensure that no talent is wasted.

His comments add to the ongoing conversation about how best to develop and utilise home-based talent in Ghana’s national teams.
