I Met A Group Of Fulani People Who Visited My Home, I Told Them To Tell Atiku To Step Down-Kwankwaso

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, October 15, 2026, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has disclosed that he asked a group of Fulani people who visited him to persuade former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso made the revelation on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the political situation ahead of the next general election.

According to the former Kano State governor, the group visited his residence for a courtesy call, which he considered an opportunity to advise them to speak with Atiku about stepping aside from the presidential contest.

He explained that he encouraged the visitors to use their time before returning to their respective communities to approach the former vice president and convince him to reconsider his ambition.

“I met with a group of Fulani people from different parts of the country who visited my home, and I saw it as a chance to speak with them.

“I urged them to speak with Atiku before returning to their towns and villages, and ask him to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.”

“Atiku is somebody that I know fairly well, and I have done so much together with him in the past, more than anybody who is around him today,” Kwankwaso said.

His remarks come as political activities and consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition parties and their leading figures positioning themselves for the presidential contest.

Kwankwaso, who previously served as governor of Kano State and represented the state in the Senate, has had a longstanding political relationship with Atiku, having worked with the former vice president on several occasions.
