Hindu College Staff Association Seeks Principal’s Removal, Independent Probe Into Alleged Irregularities
The Hindu College Staff Association (HCSA), which has been sitting on a dharna for the past two weeks over the purported irregularities, has sought the dismissal of the college principal and the chairman of its governing body, an independent probe, and prompt intervention by the University of Delhi.
According to a PTI report, the staff association is protesting alleged divergence from university admission rules, delays in faculty leave and promotion matters, the bypassing of the statutory Staff Council, and irregularities in financial and procurement processes.
It has also aired concerns over the alleged commercial use of college resources, the secrecy surrounding governing body minutes and audited accounts, fee and scholarship governance, appointments and tenure, and recurring fire incidents and structural issues.
For instance, the association claimed that the college buildings were being taken over and renamed after corporate donors, including the Chimes Group, Relaxo and Ultra International, in violation of university rules.
In response to these developments, HCSA had passed a no-confidence resolution against the college principal, a press note issued on Wednesday said.
The association is pressing for the dismissal of the governing body chairman and has called for an independent inquiry into the alleged irregularities in admissions, finances, procurement, construction, appointments and governance.
It further called for a swift and unconditional rollback of show-cause notices issued to the HCSA president, secretary and a senior faculty member for raising concerns about the principal’s purported misconduct.
The HCSA claimed that some faculty members, especially those belonging to Dalit and other marginalised communities, had been “selectively targeted”.
Citing its concerns, the association sought an interim takeover of Hindu College by Delhi University and the setting up of an extended administrative body to protect the college from moves aimed at its privatisation.
It also demanded the implementation of observations by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the disclosure of governing body minutes, audited accounts, tenders and contracts, and the restoration of the Staff Council’s statutory authority.
The HCSA said it had submitted memoranda to the university’s vice-chancellor and the governing body but had received no meaningful response.
