FINALLY EXPLAINED; Huduma Kenya Breaks Silence On New Ksh150 Fee That Has Angered Kenyans Everywhere

Kenyans can now breathe! Huduma Kenya has finally explained the new Ksh150 fee that has caused uproar and anger across the country after Kenyans complained of being charged extra money at Huduma Centres!

For the past few days, Kenyans have been complaining loudly on social media, asking why they are being forced to pay Ksh150 extra on top of the official government charges when they visit Huduma Centres for services like ID, birth certificate, Good Conduct and KRA services! Many said they felt conned and double-charged!

But now, through a statement released on October 14 and seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Huduma Kenya has clarified everything!

According to Huduma Kenya, that Ksh150 is NOT a government bribe and it is NOT going to Huduma Kenya itself! That money is for auxiliary services at the cyber cafes INSIDE Huduma Centres!

Huduma Kenya says inside all 61 Huduma Centres across 47 counties, there are cyber cafes that help citizens with assisted tasks like scanning documents, printing, photocopying, doing online applications on eCitizen, and helping those who don’t know how to use computers!

That Ksh150 fee was actually introduced back in 2023 and was standardized for all 57 Centres then, to pay for those cyber services! It covers printing, scanning and convenience fee through the eCitizen platform!

And here is the shocker! Huduma Kenya says those cyber cafes are NOT owned by Huduma Kenya! They are run by independent business owners who won government tenders through AGPO – the program that empowers youth, women and Persons with Disabilities! So the money goes directly to those hustlers, not to Huduma Kenya!

“We do not collect any revenue from the delivery of services to citizens through the independently operated cyber cafes. A service fee may be incurred for a specific service and a convenience fee through the eCitizen platform,” Huduma Kenya stated.

This means if you go to Huduma Centre and you already know how to apply on eCitizen yourself using your phone, you should NOT be forced to pay the Ksh150! The fee is only for those who need assistance at the cyber cafe!

Do you think Ksh150 is too much for cyber services? Have you ever been forced to pay extra at Huduma Centre even when you didn’t need cyber help? Should Huduma Kenya make these cyber cafes optional?
