Little chance with chipped penalty. Badly exposed for No 2. Poor at the third and wrong footed for the fourth.

Tested early by Prestianni and the Argentine was winning the battle every time. Stuck to his task better than most, though.

Conceded a clumsy penalty in the first five minutes. Part of a brittle backline brutally exposed in all departments.

Beaten by Duran for the third. Not helped by those in front of him but was steady on the ball and played some nice passes.

Tested the goalkeeper with a long-range effort and made more key interventions than any other defender.

Couldn’t control the tempo and part of a Celtic midfield that is worryingly lightweight. Did a bit better in the second half.

Received glowing reports from Germany boss Jurgen Klopp but has to be more physical on big European nights like these.

Scored when playing through the middle. Far more effective and dangerous than Hogh in that role. Hit post in each half.

Barely got a kick in a first half where he seemed overawed. Taken off early in the second period and had minimal impact.

Fell asleep and the back post to leave Bah unmarked for 2-0. Guilty of not tracking back. Powderpuff going forward.

Missed from a yard out, poor link-up play and too cumbersome to lead the line at this level. £11m? Good luck in recouping that.

SUBS: Haissem Hassan (Hogh 46), Callum Osmand (Tounekti 46), Benjamin Nygren (Sorensen 57), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Baur 57), Jordan Lotomba (Donovan 77).

Totally outclassed in the first half. Subs made a difference in the second half but Benfica did take the foot off the gas by then.

BENFICA (4-2-3-1): Trubin; Bah (Circati 80), Araujo, Lenglet, Dahl (Echeverri 64); Palhinha; Aursnes; Lukebakio (Schjelderup 68), Sudakov (El Karouani 64), Prestianni; Duran (Pavlidis 67). Booked: Dahl, Bah, Palhinha.

REFEREE: Nikola Dabanovic (Montenegro) – 7.
