Adeleke: If He Tells Osun People To Vote For Tinubu, They Will Go Against Both Him & Tinubu –Momodu
In a recent interview on Arise TV, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Dele Momodu, a veteran journalist, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Deputy Director General of the party’s presidential campaign council, discussed the influence of political leaders on voters ahead of the 2027 general election, particularly in Osun State.
Momodu examined whether Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political influence could determine how the people of Osun State vote in the next presidential election. He maintained that voters should be allowed to make independent decisions rather than automatically follow the political preferences of elected officials.
According to Momodu, “If he tells Osun people to vote for Tinubu, they will go against both him and Tinubu.” He made the statement while responding to questions about whether endorsements by governors could translate into votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The ADC chieftain disclosed that his mother was from Osun State and said he considered the people of the state politically aware and committed to democracy. He explained that their support for a political leader did not necessarily mean they would accept every political decision made by that leader.
Momodu argued that political endorsements should not be mistaken for guaranteed electoral support. According to him, voters could decide against a candidate endorsed by their governor if they were dissatisfied with the candidate or preferred another political alternative.
He also discussed the broader political situation ahead of the 2027 election, arguing that economic hardship and public dissatisfaction with the current administration could influence how Nigerians vote. He maintained that the political circumstances surrounding the forthcoming election differed from those of 2023.
His comments came amid discussions about the role of governors and other political figures in shaping presidential election campaigns, as the APC and opposition parties prepare for the next general election.
He concluded that the people of Osun State would ultimately determine their preferred presidential candidate through their votes, stressing that political endorsements by influential leaders do not automatically determine the choices of the electorate.
