What we know about reports of gospel singer Toluwanisings’ death

Rumours surrounding the reported death of Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings have left fans and colleagues searching for answers.

The reports spread across social media on Wednesday after lawyer and convener of the Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates, Pelumi Olajengbesi, shared a photograph of the singer on Instagram.

Olajengbesi appeared to mourn the singer while expressing concern over the deaths of young Nigerians.

“My God! What a life! No, Lord! We plead for Your mercy upon Toluwanisings. I am deeply troubled by the deaths of young men and women. This is not God’s plan for us,” he wrote.

The post was widely interpreted as an announcement of Toluwanisings’ death, although it did not provide details of what had happened to the singer.

Shortly afterwards, comedian Ayo Ajewole, better known as Woli Agba, urged the public not to conclude that the singer had died.

He said, “Please hold on. Please don’t conclude. We are trusting God. Please.”

Another social media user identified as Fowooflagos claimed that Toluwanisings was alive and receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical centre.

“Sources confirmed Toluwanisings is now receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed medical center,” the caption reads.

Reports about the singer’s condition remain conflicting. Some accounts say he slumped and was taken to hospital, while others have reported that he died after the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, there had been no clear public confirmation from his family or an official representative establishing his condition.

The uncertainty came shortly after Toluwanisings was reportedly active in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Business Post Nigeria reported that the singer performed on Tuesday night at In His Presence, a gospel worship and praise programme hosted by fellow gospel singer Bidemi Olaoba. The report said he later became unwell.

His recent Instagram activity has also drawn attention, with concerned fans reacting to his posts following the reports about his condition.

Toluwanisings had also faced another frightening incident earlier in the year.

In July, he and members of his crew survived a road accident involving their bus and a fully loaded trailer while returning from a gospel ministration.

The singer shared photographs of the damaged vehicle and said everyone in his team survived the crash.

Born Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, Toluwanisings is known for his energetic praise songs, Yoruba inspired gospel music and contemporary worship recordings.

His popular songs include ‘A Very Big God’, ‘Eleda’ and ‘I’m Not Alone’.

His journey into music began at a young age when he discovered his passion for singing in church choirs.

He has also collaborated with gospel artistes including Tosin Bee and Adeyinka Alaseyori.

For now, reports about his death remain unconfirmed, while colleagues and fans continue to call for prayers for the singer.
