What Natembeya Did After Ruto Fearlessly Traversed Through His Political Backyard in Trans Nzoia

President William Ruto’s latest visit to Trans Nzoia County has intensified the political rivalry between him and Governor George Natembeya, with the two leaders trading accusations over development projects and leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Ruto has continued to defend his administration’s development record in the region, while Natembeya has challenged the President over the management and ownership of projects within the county.

The latest developments come after Ruto toured Endebess on October 10, where he criticised Natembeya’s Tawe movement, accusing it of frustrating development initiatives. The President insisted that residents deserved better roads, hospitals and other essential services.

Natembeya, who was absent during the President’s visit, rejected the accusations, maintaining that his opposition to certain government decisions should not be mistaken for opposing development.

The governor also questioned the national government’s plans to launch the Masinde Muliro Market in Kitale, claiming that his administration had completed the facility using county funds.

On Tuesday, October 13, Natembeya threatened to seek court orders to stop Ruto from launching the market if the President proceeded without addressing his concerns.

The disagreement has attracted attention because it touches on the constitutional responsibilities of national and county governments. Natembeya insists that the President should respect devolution, while Ruto maintains that political disagreements should not prevent development projects from benefiting residents.

The President is continuing his North Rift tour, during which he is expected to launch and inspect several projects across the region before the Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20.

Meanwhile, the dispute has added another layer to the political competition ahead of the 2027 elections, with leaders allied to Ruto already naming possible challengers to Natembeya in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race.

Although claims circulating online suggest that Natembeya is hiding as Ruto traverses his political backyard, there is no verified evidence that the governor is hiding out of fear. His absence from the earlier presidential visit and his public criticism of the President are documented, but the claim about fear remains unconfirmed.

Do you think the ongoing disagreement between Ruto and Natembeya will affect development projects in Trans Nzoia?
