West Rand Flying Squad recovers hijacked vehicles and arrests 2

Police officers arrested two suspects and recovered three hijacked vehicles across the West Rand between October 5 and October 12.

According to West Rand Flying Squad spokesperson Karen du Plessis, officers made two separate arrests at about 22:00 on October 5.

The first arrest followed a complaint in Quellerie Park, Krugersdorp, where a suspect allegedly entered a residence and took control of the victim’s registered firearm.

“Our officers entered the residence and arrested the suspect,” Du Plessis said. The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In a separate incident in Randfontein, officers responded to a complaint and arrested a suspect for possession of suspected stolen property after searching his vehicle and recovering a transformer.

The squad also recovered three hijacked vehicles during the reported period.

On October 8, officers recovered an abandoned Toyota Hilux in Rietvallei, valued at about R200 000, after receiving information.

On October 11, police recovered an abandoned Nissan Micra in Kagiso, also valued at about R200 000, following information received.

Du Plessis further reported that on October 12, officers recovered an abandoned Volkswagen Polo Vivo in Krugersdorp North, valued at R180 000.

These operations formed part of the WRFS’s ongoing efforts to combat crime and protect communities across the West Rand.
