UCL: Lookman Hails Atlético Madrid’s Victory Over Manchester United

Ademola Lookman has expressed his delight after helping Atlético Madrid secure a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League at the Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday night.

Diego Simeone’s men took an early lead through Pablo Barrios, who finished off an assist from Alex Baena in the opening minute of the encounter.

Atlético continued to control proceedings, although Johnny Cardoso had a goal disallowed for offside just before half-time.

Manchester United’s hopes of mounting a comeback suffered another setback in the 74th minute when Leny Yoro was sent off, leaving the Premier League side with 10 men.

Lookman, who replaced Julián Álvarez in the 71st minute, put the result beyond doubt eight minutes later with a simple finish to seal an important victory for the Spanish side.

Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo after the match, the Nigeria international described the win as a significant result for Atlético Madrid, highlighting the team’s strong performance and the confidence gained ahead of their next fixture.

“We know how big of a win that is for us,” Lookman said.

“The guys put on a big performance before I come on, so it’s easy to come into the team and play.

“I tried to help the team defensively and offensively when I get the energy. It’s a big win for us; it gives us confidence going into the next game. Game after game, we have to be ready.”

Atlético Madrid will now turn their attention to their next Champions League assignment, an away clash against Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart scheduled for Tuesday, October 20.
