Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has assured Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Ankara’s support amid escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. Erdogan condemned the October 10 attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, which he said killed 12 people and injured 309 others. The Turkish president also announced progress on the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement involving Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, with plans to submit the pact to parliament for approval. The developments come as Saudi Arabia reports intercepting three drones north of Riyadh and the Houthis threaten retaliation if their stronghold in Sanaa is attacked. Is Turkey preparing for a bigger regional security role, or will Erdogan’s support remain diplomatic?
