Trump’s Cheap Fuel Promise Crumbles, Putin Diesel Deal FAILS To Deliver Relief To Americans
According to a report by Times of India (TOI) on Wednesday October 14, 2026, Donald Trump sold his diesel deal with Vladimir Putin as a way to bring fuel prices crashing back down before the midterms. But days later, the market is delivering a very different verdict.
The Russian fuel may be too little to make much difference and Trump may face a fight in Washington just to bring it into America.
As per a report by the Washington Post, diesel futures barely moved on Monday. Most of the initial price drop that followed Trump’s announcement had already disappeared, and energy analysts are now questioning whether the quantities promised by Moscow are large enough to meaningfully change the global shortage.
Trump said Russia would lift the diesel export ban imposed this summer and release hundreds of thousands of tons onto international markets. On paper, it sounded significant. Put it into the daily oil market, and the numbers look much smaller.
The volumes Trump announced work out to a little over a 100,000 barrels per day this month, and roughly 125,000 barrels per day in November. Compare that to Russia’s exports last year, around 800,000 barrels every day.
That is why analysts are warning that even if Russian diesel can legally enter the United States, the impact on prices may be limited and Americans need significant relief.
Average retail diesel prices are sitting at around $6.27 a gallon. That is below last month’s record, but still 71% higher than a year ago.
