Today’s Headlines: Tinubu Deserves Second Term — Soludo; Ex-President Obasanjo hails Eruani’s extraordinary vision on $1b Azikel refinery

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in office, urging progressive political groups across the country to unite behind the President.

Soludo made the remarks while addressing Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Alliance Africa at the inauguration of APC presidential campaign council in Abuja on Wednesday, where he declared support for the President’s economic reform agenda and vision for national development.

The governor said the principles of national unity, security and shared prosperity informed his support for Tinubu.

“We in Africa believe in the unity of Nigeria. We believe in the security of Nigeria. We believe in the shared prosperity of Nigeria,” Soludo said.

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has commended the President of Azikel Group, Dr Eruani Azibapu, for his extraordinary vision, entrepreneurial courage and monumental investment in the development of the $1 billion Azikel Refinery in Bayelsa State.

Obasanjo, who gave the commendation during his historic visit to the Azikel Refinery located at Obunagha, Yenagoa Local Government Area, where he performed the symbolic erection of the refinery’s Crude Distillation Unit (CDU), expressed satisfaction with the transformation of the refinery site since his earlier visit eight years ago, when he laid the foundation for the industrial development.

He applauded Dr Eruani’s determination and commitment to indigenous petroleum refining investment.

The Azikel Refinery is being developed as a full-scale petroleum refinery designed to produce Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), or diesel, and other refined petroleum products.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned governors and other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council against claiming victory in the 2027 presidential election if they fail to deliver their respective states to President Bola Tinubu.

Wike spoke on Wednesday at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, after he was appointed coordinator for the FCT and Rivers State.

He said the priority of every member of the council should be to ensure Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of their positions within the campaign structure.

“I want to say, if you don’t deliver your states and the president wins, don’t say we’ve won. It’s not a question of whether I am chairman, secretary or member of this. What is important is for the president to win,” Wike said.

The Restorative Justice for Africa Initiative (REJA) has trained 30 court registrars in Ogun State on proper remand proceedings to prevent prolonged detention and strengthen the protection of fundamental human rights.

In a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Wednesday, REJA said the training, held on October 13, 2026, at the Ogun State Judiciary Development Centre, Judiciary Complex, Abeokuta, was organised under the Security Playbook Project of the Action Group on Free Civic Space, in collaboration with the Ogun State Judiciary and with support from the Fund for Global Human Rights.

The programme focused on improving the administration, documentation, monitoring and follow-up of remand proceedings to ensure that detention orders are properly managed and cases requiring judicial review receive timely attention.

Explaining the need for the intervention, REJA said procedural gaps in the management of remand orders could expose vulnerable individuals to prolonged and potentially unlawful detention.
