Tinubu Gets Fresh Boost as APGA Endorses 2027 Re-Election Bid, Backs Soludo for Campaign Role
According to a report by The Nation on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 while maintaining its intention to contest legislative elections in Anambra State.
The party also congratulated Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his appointment as the state coordinator of Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council, describing the decision as recognition of his leadership and efforts to strengthen cooperation between the state and the Federal Government.
APGA’s position was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, following Soludo’s inclusion in the revised campaign council.
According to the party, its decision to support Tinubu was initially approved by its National Executive Committee (NEC) and subsequently reaffirmed during the President’s working visit to Anambra State on May 8, 2025.
Consequently, APGA said it would not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general election, opting instead to support Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The party attributed its decision to shared progressive values and the potential benefits of cooperation between the Anambra government and the Federal Government, particularly in infrastructure development and economic growth.
APGA also expressed confidence that Soludo’s political influence, organisational experience and standing across the Southeast would contribute to efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
However, the party emphasised that its endorsement of Tinubu would not weaken its political identity or affect its electoral ambitions in Anambra State.
It maintained that it would continue to field candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Anambra State House of Assembly elections, allowing it to support Tinubu at the presidential level while competing independently in legislative contests.
Soludo’s appointment comes as political parties and influential figures intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The revised Presidential Campaign Council reportedly lists Tinubu as chairman, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice-chairmen.
Other prominent figures named include FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo.
APGA’s position highlights its intention to cooperate with Tinubu’s presidential campaign while preserving its independent political interests in Anambra State ahead of the next general elections.
