Some People Are Even Suggesting That If Tinubu Loses The Election, That He Will Not Agree — Momodu

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and Deputy Director-General of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, Bashorun Dele Momodu, has questioned public confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to conduct a free and fair election. Momodu made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Asked whether the average Nigerian trusted Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election, the ADC chieftain responded by alleging that confidence in the president’s handling of the process was lacking across political lines. “Look, nobody trusts Tinubu to run a free and fair election, including his own supporters,” Momodu said.

He argued that although some supporters of the president expressed confidence that the ruling party would win the next election, their reasoning was based on their perception of Tinubu’s political influence rather than an assessment of the electoral process. “They will tell you, if they tell you, ‘Oh, we’re going to win, there’s no way we won’t win.’ Ask them why. They’ll say, ‘But you know our Oga now,’” he stated.

Momodu also referred to concerns he said had been expressed by some people about whether Tinubu would accept defeat if he lost the 2027 presidential election. “In fact, some people are even suggesting that if Tinubu loses the election, that he will not agree. I say, why won’t he agree? It will chase him away. Look, you do not know the determination of Nigerians,” the ADC chieftain added.

He maintained that his confidence about the political situation was not based solely on the prospects of his party, but also on what he described as the sentiments of ordinary Nigerians. “And now, I’m not resting my confidence on just my party. I’m talking about the ordinary man on the street who cannot imagine Tinubu coming back again. They just can’t,” Momodu added.
