Seahawks’ Cooper Kupp puts positive spin on boneheaded turnovers costing Seattle games
The turnover problem has cost the Seattle Seahawks two games this season. Though they are heading into Week 6 with a respectable 3-2 record, their struggles to protect the football remain a major topic of discussion. However, Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp continues to maintain a positive outlook despite the team’s costly mistakes.
When asked about the turnover issue during a press conference, Kupp said that the team could take some encouragement from its ability to remain competitive despite giving the ball away.
“That if you want to grab any positive out of it, if you want to grab any positive out of it, it’s that you don’t most times turn the ball over that many times,” Kupp said.
“You are not in a position to win the game at the end of it, and we battled and found a way to be in that position, and so is that as a positive, but it means getting out of your own way and not putting our defense in tough positions.”
The Seahawks have committed seven total turnovers across their two losses against the Washington Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers. Both opponents capitalized on those mistakes, combining for 41 points off takeaways in games Seattle ultimately lost.
The fact that both losses were decided by only a few points makes the turnover problem even more frustrating for Seattle. If Kupp’s team could avoid even some of those costly mistakes, they could have maintained an unbeaten record, and strengthen their position atop the NFC West standings..
Seattle’s next opportunity to address its turnover problems comes against the Denver Broncos on Thursday at Empower Field at Mile High. Both teams enter the Week 6 matchup with identical 3-2 records. Protecting the football and avoiding unnecessary mistakes will be crucial if Seattle hopes to come away with a victory on the road.
